Conscious of the threats facing man and the planet, Saint Martin is calling for a change of habits and is promoting ecological tourism. What is meant by “ecotourism” is a form of tourism planned and carried out so as to promote sustainable regional development while respecting traditional cultures as well as local flora and fauna. This type of tourism encourages conservation of the ecosystem and the preservation of authentic local traditions. It incorporates the notion of a natural and cultural heritage and recognizes its value. Every year, we celebrate an “Ecotourism Day”.
