CHRISMAS LIGHT COMPÉTITION
To boost the creativity of local residents and encourage them to take part in the magic of Christmas, the Tourist Office is launching a Christmas decoration competition open to private individuals.
Make Saint-Martin shine with a thousand lights: that's the challenge set by the Tourist Office for the end-of-year festivities. "It was a project close to my heart," says Aïda Weinum, Director of the Tourist Office. "When I was a child, I used to go out with my family to see the Christmas decorations in the different districts of the island. I was in awe of the illuminated houses. Over the years, we've lost that tradition, and it's time to recapture that Christmas spirit."
Two categories:
The competition, for which entries are open from September 1 to midday on November 24, is open to all residents of the French part of the island, and to private individuals only. Three prizes will be awarded in two categories: house or apartment and boat. A five-person jury will be in charge of the competition. There will also be a "special tradition" prize and the "public's favorite" award. Candidates will be judged between November 24 and December 5. "This project will boost the island's economy, and be a real eye-catcher for tourists and locals alike", confided Grégoire Duhmel, in charge of the project. Entries will be judged on a number of criteria, including appearance, layout, use of colors and shapes, variety, sound and light, originality, and welcome.
