Located in the northwest of the island, between the sea and the largest salt marsh on St. Martin, this old fishing village has retained all its authenticity and, above all, preserved its colonial architecture. Exotic excellence is served up on a plate twenty minutes from Marigot. Come visit Grand Case!
Known as the food capital of the Caribbean, the district is home to a number of restaurants rated by Gault & Millau. They offer a delicious fusion of Creole flavors and the great traditions of French cuisine. It’s a worthy representation of the French art of living is worthily, against a truly stunning backdrop.
Lolos, those unmissable local restaurants that line the beach, serve traditional Creole barbecued meat and fish and other Caribbean specialties. They’re sure to take you on an extraordinary gourmet journey without breaking the bank. You’ll get excellent value for money, and you’ll dine among the locals on a terrace facing the Caribbean. These restaurants are the haunt of local residents and perfectly illustrate the great vibes that prevail on the “friendly island”. They open daily for lunch and dinner.
Tourism in Grand Case, by Day or by Night
During the day, the calm waters and white sands of the main beach of Grand Case attract both tourists and locals. This beach distinguishes itself from all the others on St. Martin by the presence of a landing stage. There is no shortage of watersports. The bars and restaurants along the beach invite you to unwind at the water’s edge. This beach is also a meeting place for divers preparing to explore Creole Rock just opposite, and is also the departure point for the glass-bottomed boats that can take you exploring the riches of the underwater world without getting wet. You can stretch out on a beach chair at one of the bars and restaurants on Boulevard de Grand Case. Comfortably settled, you’ll savor all the pleasures of a private beach. These include lunch, the use of a beach chair and umbrella, snacks and refreshments throughout the day, and a relaxing massage after your swim. Grand Case Beach also has a vast public area where you can spread your towel, bask in the sun, and take a dip without paying.
If you’re looking for something smaller, head up Boulevard de Grand Case until it turns into Rue de Petite Plage, just beyond the town’s boundary. Don’t worry if you go too far; it ends in a cul-de-sac. You’ll have to park pretty far away from this beach, since it can only be reached on foot. Hidden at the northeastern tip of the bay, it is a calm and peaceful site. The crystal-clear waters and sun-bleached sand make this the ideal spot for relaxing but is also great for snorkeling. You’ll discover a small cove that will reveal its secrets if you’re curious enough.
Half of the beach is occupied by a hotel and restaurant that offers private beach services. If you don’t want to pay to enjoy this heavenly setting, head for the public beach, on the right-hand side. Bring a picnic if you want to spend the day here.
The trendy bars and restaurants burst into life at nightfall, lit up by lanterns. You can sip a cocktail to the sound of music or enjoy a candlelit dinner along the seafront or in the opulent-looking buildings on the boulevard. Grand Case boasts about thirty bars and restaurants, each with its own unique atmosphere. In Grand Case, tourists are kept in a permanent state of awe. This old fishing village is also known for hosting lots of events. Grand Case Tuesdays held from January to March are a perfect example, with parades, craft stalls and concerts galore. Over the past twenty years or more, this iconic festival has become THE artistic and culinary highlight of St. Martin. Nowadays, Grand Case Tuesdays are a cultural showcase beyond compare.
Grand Case is also worth a visit at the end of the year, on the last Sunday before Christmas. A huge procession of brightly decorated floats parades through the village. Dressed in their best costumes, children and adults stroll in the streets to the musical beat. Visiting Grand Case is a festive experience!
